They didn't *need* to be pretty but they are. :) Brush bristles need to be rinsed before use, which is true for most paint brushes that arrive "crispy" (it's a preservative, it's normal.) I have not noticed any bristles dropping, or fraying. Brushes are really dainty, and would probably work for miniature painting, too.
