That's what "hard anodized" refers to. The outside coating is, as far as I know, not toxic, but what's underneath, the teflon, contains PFOAs, and other stuff, which are purported to be carcinogens aka toxins. If you chip or scratch the anodized coating, then you're exposed to PFOAs and not good stuff, just like with non-anondized teflon. At least, that's what I found when I researched it about 10 years ago. So anodized is safe, but if you scratch it, which you'll likely do, even with careful use, then it's probably best to throw it away and get another. **Q: Is this compatible with an induction stove top?** A: No, but you can use an induction interface disk **Q: I need a lid for this pan. Any suggestions?** A: You need a different pan then. This isn't a pan you put a lid on.
