Stick into handle works well, bit cuts, I punch a starter hole and it’s easy. Use w care. The one I received the bit has a few tiny chips out along cutting edge, no big deal (can be sharpened). Used w care (gloves or something covering the bit when holding) the peg maker works, go easy w confidence. One can go w make ur own pegs no problem. This is a fun shop/camp tool, left to ur imagination and skill - no telling - what one can make ! Leather case nicely made. I started this lovely little tool by hand into some green mulberry. It cut so well I probably could have bore the hole without a helper stick, but I wanted to try it all the way out. The hole came clean on the first go. Smacking it on the end of a branch to create the tenon worked as I expected. Took a little effort but I don't find it to be out of line. I can't say I would purposely ever smack it on the auger, just on the top. I saw other reviews that said it broke at the weld. The weld on mine is a good one. Correct penatration was achieved and it should last a very long time. Fitment of the tenon into the mortise was perfect. I was prepared to score the tenon to accept a wedge but found it wasn't needed in this situation. If I had to complain about anything it would be the length. I could see some greater projects requiring a deeper hole/tenon, however that may be extreme. Sheath is a bit cheesy but functional. Overall great purchase!
