There are neither configurable vents for controlling airflow nor a mechanism for raising/lowering the coals. (I think the description says there is, but there is not.) So, I don't see how to control the heat other than lid open or lid closed. The "drip pan" looks okay for catching drips (as with a gas grill) but is undersized for catching coal ash. I suspect a lot of ash will find its way down into the base unit when the drip pan overflows. There is no way to access the coals other than pulling the grates off, so if you need to add some coals or move them around while cooking, it will be a hassle.The construction is okay - it is a very nice looking grill. The base unit door does not stay shut - there is no catch - it relies on the hinge action to keep it closed and it does not work.
