Im a postpartum doula, lactation counselor, and training to be a baby sleep specialist. I also hold a graduate degree in child development. ( for anyone questioning my response). In previous studies bed sharing was seen as dangerous because factors such as smoking, drinking .. etc were not controlled for. New studies show that when bed sharing is done in a safe way ( no smoking, drugs, alcohol, on a firm mattress, never on the couch) the risk of sids falls to the same as when sleeping on separate sleep surface for infants under 3 months, and even lower than that for infants over 3 months. There have also been extensive sleep studies done in notre dame sleep laboratory that show that bed sharing regulates the infants cardiovascular rhythms and breathing patterns. It’s raises oxytocin and lowers cortisol. That in itself is a huge protector against sids. Also countries with the lowest sids rates around the world bed share. Please listen to your instincts and do what’s natural. **Q: Does your foam contain fire retardants?** A: Our foam is PHTHALATE & BPA Free Polyurethane Foam with NO FLAME RETARDANTS. It is safe and non-toxic. **Q: Do I have to get bigger sheets?** A: I use the sheets for a taller mattress so I did not have to buy bigger sheets, the ones I had worked. I do not know if they work for the standard height sheets or not. **Q: Can this be used with a crib converted to a toddler bed or would it be too big** A: We actually stand by our statement that this product may be used on toddler beds. The government standard was designed for metal bed rails which, if made too long, or if used on toddler length beds, could present an entrapment wall. This cannot happen with a foam bed rail, as it is 4.5" tall, and not an "active" restraint system like a tall metal rail. However, we (by law) must include safety warnings, even if they are not germane to our product. Hopefully this clarifies our position.
