Liquid cultures are used to start mushroom growth on almost any medium including fruiting bags, grain bags, plugs, and agar. They are the most convenient way to start culturing new species. The following instructions show grain bags being inoculated, but the same process can be used on any bag. You will need a flow hood or glovebox, 70% alcohol, paper towel, nitrile gloves, a roll of scotch tape, your culture, and sterilized grain bags. Turn on the hood. Put on the gloves, then spray them with alcohol generously. rub them together well, be sure to get the top of your hands and between your fingers. Spray alcohol on a paper towel, be sure to cover it well, but it does not need to be dripping. Wipe an area or spot on the substrate bag which you will be injecting through. Do not wipe or inject through the white breather filter on the bag. Keep the cap on. Shake your culture syringe hard for 30 seconds. This will help break up the mycelium and spread cells throughout the syringe. Open the needle by peeling back the paper and plastic. Try not to touch what is inside. Remove the cap from the culture syringe and twist the needle tight into place. Next, prepare for inoculation by pulling the clear cap off to expose the needle. Pierce the bag with the needle where you prepped it with alcohol, and inject 1ml of liquid culture into the bag, then withdraw the syringe. Take a 1-inch piece of tape. Be sure to remove the first couple inches of previously exposed tape when you first enter the hood or glovebox in order to eliminate any contaminates. Cover the injection point with the fresh tape, be sure it is sealed well. It is good measure to grab a second piece of tape and cross over the first. After the injection point is sealed, unroll and mix your substrate bag. Mixing the bag spreads the culture through it resulting in faster incubation times. Set your inoculated bag in a dark place between 70F-90F (80F is best for most species). This batch did in fact grow really well. The seller was quick to try to resolve the issue when asked so changing the 1 star to 5 stars.I purchased the 10 ml syringe of Red Reishi liquid culture in August 2025.Along with 3 other LC syringes from other distributors.Split all of them between grain and more LC.All of the others have grown and produced.But not the Reishi.It appears to be dead.No growth in the grain.No growth in the liquid culture.It is now mid January.I’ve tried several times from the liquid culture on grain and agar.Nothing. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Easy to propagate so far. Instructions below. *by on Reviewed in the United States March 16, 2022* First of all this is for Wine Cap mushroom liquid culture (also recommend lions mane 100%)So far I have used half a syringe for propagating the spores in 4 mason jars, 3 days later and I have started to notice progress I used 16oz mason jars.-brown rice (boiled and then lowered to simmer for 12 minutes to absorb water) then I drained the rice for 2 hours and then pressure cook/can in a Ninja foodi/instant pot for 30 mins each. 8 hours later I used 1 CC per jar.You can drill 2 holes on the jars lid, one in the center 1/4 and one more on the side 1/8.
