A: Generally speaking or as I understand it.  The expiration date is the date after which you may see some deterioration or change in the product.  Generally this makes them less potent over time.  With prescription drugs, the products it changes into could actually be detrimental rather than just less effective.  Normally, you have a bit of time after the expiration date on vitamins to use them before they deteriorate sufficiently for the change to be noticeable.
