The rods and fabric are separate pieces so if you want to say, sew a cute pattern and use that instead you could. The material is strong and durable though so unless you didn't like the colors you will love this product. **Q: Would this topple over easily?** A: If not against a wall I think it could topple over because of its shape **Q: Does this need to be secured to the wall?** A: Yes, if your children try to climb things.... for older children, probably not.
