The provided suction cup keeps the window shade pulled up just as well as it does down. The only small criticism that I have is with the rod that supports the hook end of the shade. It's somewhat weak and bends easily when little hands get hold of it. I'm sure it will break eventually, but for now it seems to be holding up.
