The USB does setup as a com port and is powered from the USB port, the device works flawlessly for what I need it for. For the price, it is well worth it as I use many protocols over the RS485 for device discovery. As soon as I plugged in this Waveshare box, worked instantly! Windows 10 found the driver on it's own, and within mere minutes of unboxing; I was in business programming a motor controller for a local guy who had a broken down mobility scooter. The box housing seems really high quality I feel, and its heavy too which I like about it.
