I removed 1 star because the process of upgrading the RAM to a more reasonable 16gb may have warranty implications.Pro:- The build quality, while plastic, is fairly strong, light weight and thin.- The overall thermals are quite good for the GPU and CPU. Interestingly, the CPU fan side makes more noise than the GPU side. Wonder how much better a Ryzen would do in this chassis?- Moderately easy to upgrade if you are OK with removing your warranty (see cons below)- GPU is Max-Q and 75watts on the upper side to 75 watts, but still cranks out 37mh/s with a -500 core +500 mem setting.Cons:- One HDMI out. That means you can only have 1 external monitor hooked into your machine. Both of the USB-C ports are only for USB connections.- The Battery is small, expect to be plugged in most of the time.- The stock 8gb of Memory is easily upgradable, but you have to break a 'factory seal' in order to do the upgrade, which likely means more struggle if something goes wrong with your laptop within the warranty period. ### ⭐⭐⭐ 65 watt 3060, 8GB RAM, and a dull IPS screen *by J***N on Reviewed in the United States on 17 October 2021* Bought this MSI laptop as configured - GF65 Thin 10UE-091 15.6" 144Hz 3ms Gaming Laptop Intel Core i7-10750H RTX3060 8GB 512GB NVMe SSD Win10 in February 2021 for $1200 + tax.The Good:i7 CPU - 6 cores/12 threads is all most gamers need.RTX 3060 GPU/video should be as good as last gens 2070, and handles most games at 1080p just fine.Smooth 144hz IPS panel3200Mhz DDR4 RAMNVME drive seems plenty fast to me.Cooling is decent for it's size2 USB Type C portsHDMI 2.0 (4k 60HZ)Thin form factor.Relatively easy to work on, and upgrade RAM, and/or NVME.The Mediocre:This i7 is 6 core 12 thread CPU unlike other i7's that have been 8 core since gen 9.You will have to lower the quality settings on some games at 1080p with this lower power 3060.Panel is fast, but there is some ghosting.RAM is in single channel mode, and you will want to upgrade/add a 2nd stick.Fans are noticeable at stock, especially under load. As with all laptops/pcs, UNDERVOLTING will help greatly.Chassis looks the same as my 8 year old Lenovo Y500, and is a finger print magnet.Type C ports are only for data. No power, or video.Power switch is weird. I'd prefer a regular button.There is a seal on the back that has to broken to work on your new laptop.You must take care when pulling off the bottom of the laptop to work on it. The main thing is take out all screws (1 is under the seal), and to pop off the USB/HDMI side 1st, then loosen the rest working towards the side with the AUDIO JACK so you can pull it out around the jacks. There is a guide or 2 on youtube showing you how to do this without damaging those ports. Check before buying to see if this is something you can handle because this system really can use a 2nd stick of RAM.The BAD, misleading, lies, and damned lies:Intel Core i7-10750H is an i7 is in name only. It's 6 core 12 thread CPU that waw replaced by an i5 with slightly better specs. Some give and take, but this was basically i5 performance when released, and should not be called an i7. You're paying extra for that i7 tag.This 3060 is a 60-75 watt part. Considering that they go up to 130 watts like in the Lenovo legion 5, this should be noted, but is not on purpose. The higher rated units are 10-25% faster, and this GPU is around 10% slower than last years laptop 2070. NVIDIA, and their vendors are being super shady with their product naming. They use to call these less powerful GPU's "MAX-Q" like that's a good thing lol. Now they don't even differentiate the various power options. You have to look for reviews to find the actual power rating on many new RTX laptops. NVIDIA probably bins thier chips. That is they test to see which chips are do what they are rated do, which chips can handle a bit more, and which chips are worse. MSI ordered the bottom binned chips for these low powered laptops.There is no reason for this $1200 laptop to come with only 8 GB of RAM in single channel mode. To get similar performance of what other people get stock with their i7 10750H laptops in dual channel, you have to break the MSI seal, and that definitely affects the warranty.The panel used seems to be the same as the one in the previous GF65's. It got bad reviews then, and is still not great. The colors look washed out next to my 8 year old y500's IPS panel. This is AGAIN, an area that MSI cheaped out on, and probably sourced a ton of these sub par panels for much less than better units.Conclusion:It's a decent compact gaming laptop with too many compromises. The panel, and the low powered 3060 are my biggest issues, and 8 GB RAM doesn't help it's case. As configured, you can do better for $1200. At $1000 it would be decent, and under 1k would make it good buy considering you have to add RAM just to get the CPU to perform like it should.If you still choose to buy this laptop, or already purchased one:The panel, while not great, doesn't matter too much as long as you are not in a bright area, and don't have a proper screen set up right next to it. I notice it at 1st, but after a few minutes, it looks fine to me.UNDERVOLT IT AS BEST AS YOU CAN. This applies to all your pc's, and laptops. It saves electricity/$$$, keeps temps cooler, and help lenghten the life of your pc. It also helps the environment. It takes a little time to learn how to do it for each different pc, but it's FREE.I run Intels EXTREME TUNING UTILITY, and MSI afterburner with great results. 10-20 degree drops with no noticeable performance loss, and gains in FPS. There are plenty of guides online. Since they nerfed XTU, there are not as many options for these laptops, but you can adjust the turbo with great results. I got mines set 15 watt turbo with 20 watt short, with the timer at stock. The CPU still hits 48XX Mhz, and it helps with GPU temps since the cooler is connected. MSI afterburner is a bit more complicated. You want to adjust the power curve to do it right. Since XTU is helping the CPU, you can also just tweak the GPU a bit for performance.. +50ish core, and +350 - +500 memory. Temps usually stay in the 60's while gaming. Stress testing goes into the 80s, but used to hit 100's before I'd shut it down in short testing.ADD RAM. I added a used Samsung 3200 DDR4 Sodimm 4GB stick for $15. You probably want to add a 2nd 8GB for best results. Try to match RAM. There is a fee program called Thaiphoon that will read what kind of stick you have so you match it as best as possible, and at least get the same brand with similar speed/timings, and you can also open your laptop to see the model number.ADD COOLING. Any decent cooling pad will help. This unit has lots of vents, and external cooling does help it.I run 2 120mm pc fans off a 12 volt adapter, and it shaves around 5-10 degrees off my temps. Varies greatly due to high summer temps around here. I wouldn't do any long gaming sessions, or stress testing wiihtout external cooling. They just cant fit enough cooler in that thin chassis.Do a fresh intsall of Windows 10. MSI software is not the worst, but the only thing I really need from that, and all the bloatware is Afterburner. So I did fresh install to get rid of MSI sofware, and other bloatware, then installed XTU, afterburner, other programs that I wanted, or needed. Fresh install helped with temps believe it or not. Less unneeded junk running in the background for the CPU work on. You could also keep it stock, but you will be using more resources on things that don't matter most of the time. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Best bang for your buck! *by D***. on Reviewed in the United States on 2 May 2021* Awsome product and customer service! First one received had a defective TouchPad, got in touch with the seller and was able to swap out for another new one, no hassle. Quick to respond and handled my issue professionally. Notebook performs as it should, was lagging a little when playing division 2 on highest settings, added another 8gb of ram and it fixed the issue. Recommend having at least 16gb of ram, does void warranty if you do it your self. Great for gaming, high settings on any current game @1080p. Runs hot, as most gaming notebooks do, Cant beat the price or its size!
