The only thing I noticed that concerns me is, since I can't put the plastic scoop over the fire to dump it, I put it on my ash shovel and dump it over the fire that way... It seems to have stuck to and stained my ash shovel, I am guessing some part of the chemical have melted and adhere to the shovel. I guess that is how it works in the chimney it adheres itself in a thin layer and prevents creosote build up via some sort of catalytic reaction. Again I have not gone up the chimney and inspected or done any scientific study of this product, but I like the fact I can just apply a little one or two times a week depending on how much wood I burn.. Especially if I over dampen and the stove smolder for a long time, I like to get it reheated and then apply a little of this stuff to make sure to clean out the tar and creosote I caused by over dampening the fire. With the big log, you put it all in at once and then you are stuck if you accidentally run an over smoldered fire unless you want to burn a whole new expensive log. So being able to apply just a little is a great idea I like it. I guess one could cut the creosote log up into smaller pieces, but why when you can just grab a scoop of this product and apply to hot coals and a fire. By the way mine arrived powdered and not hardened up like a brick, I read a lot of people saying it was hardened up. I am guessing they product must have some how gotten wet/damp before they got it. I have had mine for quite a while now and it is still scoopable, although I have noticed a few chunks sticking together, but noting like the big hard brick others are talking about. The directions are to build a fire using kindling and once it gets going good I add some wood that is approximately 2" in diameter and let that burn for 15-30 minutes, then I pour 1 scoop full over the embers. It starts crackling right away so I close the fire place up. After just one fire I can definitely tell a difference. The whole inside changes from shiny to dull and I can then use a chisel or just a small putty knife to scrape the creosote off. It's a dirty job so you'll want to protect you floor. It absolutely gives me peace of mind! **Q: I have a 3 story chimney. Will this clean all the way to the top?** A: I have 15' of 6" stove pipe and after 2 years and 5 cords of wood I got about 1 cup of ash out with the chimney brush.
