As an engineer, I'd be hard pressed to build something comparable and certainly could not do so for the price. I am awaiting two hip replacements and have some difficulty standing up from a couch or low chair. From my personal experience, I've placed a piece of 6" thick high density foam on the seat cushion to enable me to sit higher than normal. The EZ stand can be adjusted to suit the elevated cushion height, and relieves the strain of standing from a low position. I'm very satisfied with the product and happy with the purchase.
