It will hold paper plate in the top and the small container that comes with it if perfect for holding plastic eating utensils. The bottom is large enough to hold solo cups and styrofoam coffee cups with lids. It is also spacious enough to add napkins and pot holders. Although, this is what I bought for it will also be nice for those church pot lucks for carrying a casserole dish as it was designed for. I absolutely love it. Our food is hot without worrying about melting the carrier, and our casserole dishes have plenty of room, even some glass ones I have that are larger than 9x13. It also has the extra storage area on top that comes with plastic food containers you can bring cold foods in or use to bring home your leftovers. I haven't had a need for those yet, but the extra space is great for bringing along my hot mitts and a large serving spoon.
