The red is a bright red. These bags appear well made with overstitching where the handles are attached , and overlooked seams , and there is no bottom seam, the bag I think was made by folding a piece of the fabric in half and sewing the seams and the top hem and then the handles, so with no seam on the bottom it can't give way if you put something heavy in it, so expect them to be long lasting. I bought the small sized bags in red, you can easily fit a standard packaged square loaf inside. The handles are double thickness, well seamed and a good length for carrying, not designed to go over your shoulder, which I prefer, being short and usually carrying the shopping I find the longer handled bags reach the floor, so these are a great length for carrying and thick enough to be comfortable too. The size given is the flat size, that is to say there is no depth, so say you pop a melon inside the bad gets narrower because the melon is 3D. I am only mentioning this in case someone is looking to put a box inside, and only going off the width measurements. All packs of 10 bags have been supplied in perfect condition, with the exception of one in the set of the green bags, which wasn't stitched for about 7"/17.5cm down one vertical seam. (I didn't bother returning it). I've ordered bags in red, blue, black, green and cream. They're very useful. I've always ordered the biggest size - it's worked well for shopping. I've also used the bags to put gifts in - better than a bit of wrapping paper - the recipient can then reuse the bag (if you have kids - buy the cream bags, then you can decorate the bag with fabric markers). **Q: What is the GSM of the bags?** A: I believe these bags are 5 oz which equates to roughly 170gsm. Although strong, they feel quite thin. I must admit for 70p extra per bag I prefer the same suppliers heavier, 10oz, boxed bottom version. **Q: is this suitable for a college bag sturdy wise?** A: It's strong but pretty light weight & it's flat (doesn't have a boxed bottom but that's easy enough to do yourself).
