I do not know the type of steel they are constructed of. One pointer is double-sided. **Q: What size refills does it take** A: The Weems & Plath 176 Dividers use 2mm replacement leads. **Q: What are the dimensions of this product? I am looking for a 7in pair, is that what this one is?** A: Yes, these are labeled as a 7" pair. I might add, these are very high quality. I purchased two pairs for a going through all of the US Power Squadron classes on piloting and navigation.
