Judging by a minority of the reviews I suspect others have handled the probe roughly and broke the probe because of it. Using both the temperature and moisture features you can verify when the hay is cured properly and gives you the opportunity to know your hay is safe to store and won't get moldy. I know experienced farmers know by feel of their hands, smell and crispiness that the hay is good. Thank you for asking. **Q: Is this made in China?** A: Not positive, but I don't think it's made in China. We had to send the one we bought back to be fixed after a couple years and I know we didn't send it to China. The AgraTronix web site states " Products Designed & Assembled in the U.S.A.". Messaged amazon, got told to contact manufacturer, called, was given an address to send it to, never heard back, never saw it again (4 or 5 months).
