Review: I'm sure many of you who are looking at this have already given the cheaper filters a try. I'd gone through 4 different models of filters before I finally decided it was time to purchase a higher-tier filter. And let me tell you, this one does not disappoint. In fact, I couldn't be more happy with this purchase. The water source for my town is a foul-smelling lake which also is open to the public for recreation. It is the furthest thing from "fresh water." By the time my local water has gone through the city filtration, it also has a noticeably high level of chlorine. So with my water, everything is working against me. Instead of drinking a healthy amount of water everyday, the undesirable taste of the water usually meant I wouldn't drink enough during the day. This filter FINALLY fixed my problem. The water that goes in this filter on one end is completely different from the water that comes out through the spout. I would describe the taste of this water as "nothing." Just pure water, that's it! I love being able to have a nice cup of water again as compared to bottled water from the store. From my limited research, this appears to be the next best thing after Reverse Osmosis. From the CDC's website, there's a description of multiple filters and their function. The filter in this tri-filter assembly that caught my attention was the nanofilter. Nanofilter technology has a pore size of about .001 micron. The next step up, reverse osmosis, has filters with a pore size of .0001 micron. The difference is what you make it. Nanofiltration and Reverse osmosis are extremely effective at reducing protozoa, viruses, and bacteria. The only notable difference is nanofiltration is not quite as good at removing chemicals, but it still fares batter than every other option besides reverse osmosis (or distillation). The first filter (composite) and third (carbon) also help to ensure longevity and good taste. The benefit this has over RO, and the reason I chose it, is because it's extremely simple to set up (and remove). If you're renting a space and are not allowed to drill holes under your sink for an RO system, this is the best alternative. The last note I'll make is that you'll most likely have to guide your guests through getting a glass of water, otherwise they may end up leaving the water running for a few hours. There's a learning curve of about 10 seconds, but then your guests will understand the system and will keep the faucet off when not in use! So if you can't stand the taste of your water, give this a try. If your water conditions are similar to, or not as bad as mine, then this filter should hopefully improve the taste. It worked for me!

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Has anybody tested this system with a TDS meter? That is the only way to really know how good of a job it is doing. If the reading is 20 or less, then it is comparable to an RO filter. If it's much higher than 20, don't waste your money.**
A: Yes I did test this system with the TDS meter and was very disappointed. The readings were exactly the same as what came out of the tap. I called Brondell and they informed me that was how it's supposed to be. Their system is apparently designed to only remove the bad taste...not the dissolved solids...well in my case it did neither. The water still tasted bad and the TDS reading was just as high as the tap. Our water is so bad here, typical readings from 450-800+ so it may just be that filters don't work here. I gave up on filters after trying many and ordered delivered water from Culligan.

**Q: Anyone utilize this system on a municipal water supply that is very *very* hard? Is it effective? How is filter performance/lifespan affected?**
A: I live in an area where water is very hard. The filter doesn't remove the calcium. I can see that while boiling the filtered water; have to clean the boiler every day if I don't want to have any sediment in my tea. I find the Berkey filter more effective.

**Q: There is no mention of the micron level of filtration. Does it remove giardia bacteria, or any bacteria for that matter?**
A: Stage 2: NANOTRAP FILTER (HF-32): This specialized, patented, innovative Nanotechnology filter is made with 100% USA sourced materials including Nano alumina & cellulose fibers with a pore size of 2 micron (2 µm) that reduce turbidity, harmful waterborne microorganisms (including many bacteria and virus) as well as numerous particulates. Do not use with water that is microbiologically unsafe or unknown quality without adequate disinfection before or after the system.

**Q: Does it change the PH of the water to make it more Alkaline?**
A: No scientific evidence about that. But it definitely changes the taste of nappy-Texas water.

This is a superior product by far. The instructions were clear, so the installation was simple and quick. It's a fairly small unit, yet quickly provides lots of water, and the water quality is simply excellent. I live in an apartment building, which supplies town water, and now my water no longer contains black flakes or the horrible smell and taste of chlorine. JCormier
