Even though I am the opposite side of the house to the router I was able to set it up without going near the router. I live in a shared house so I often have difficulties with the WiFi especially as I am at the opposite end of the house from the router. My computer used to regularly disconnect from the WiFi all the time but that has never occurred while using this WiFi i extender. I connected it to my Chromebook with no issues at all.
