I have an L shaped bar that has no holes in the seat part so I need to attach to this mechanism.** A: based on my experience installing this onto my chair, I would have to say no, there no holes specifically designed to accommodate the seat back. The design you have appears to be a less common type and you may need to look specifically for a base that has something for it. **Q: How many positions does the tilt lock in?** A: only locks in the full upright position **Q: How far back can this tilt?** A: Quite far, though no measurement in inches / cm as it varies depending upon the chair design. Definitely far enough back that you will want to test it slowly as on some chairs the reclining may be so much as to put you close to tipping backwards. The chair is a bradly executive chair and the frame cracked and broke. This product broke around the gas shock collar. It wasn't obvious where the break was until I took it off the chair.
