This archival, warp-resistant panel supports a wide range of media including acrylics, inks, gouache, and mixed media techniques. Packaged as 24 compact 1" x 1" panels, Claybord is handcrafted in the USA using FSC-certified materials, making it the ultimate canvas alternative for fine detail and experimental artistry. ## Description Ampersand’s Museum Series Claybord is the only professional painting panel made with a true kaolin clay ground—a smooth, absorbent, clay-coated painting surface inspired by the clay-gesso panels used by Renaissance artists. This ultra-refined ground offers crisp detail, clean color, and exceptional control for fine artwork on panel, mixed media, and experimental techniques. Unlike other art surfaces, Claybord supports both additive and subtractive approaches—its kaolin clay coating absorbs color beautifully while allowing artists to use scratchboard tools to etch and scratch in fine detail, or to lighten, refine, or even erase areas using oil-free steel wool or fine sandpaper. This flexibility gives artists a unique level of control across a wide range of media, including acrylics, inks, alcohol inks, gouache, egg tempera, casein, watercolor, graphite, airbrush, collage, image transfers, printmaking, and mixed media. The smooth, archival surface also supports mounting photographs, art prints, and other paper artwork, making it an exceptionally versatile rigid painting surface. Every Claybord panel is built on Ampersand’s premium, warp-resistant Hardbord™ core, the most stable wood substrate on the market, and sealed with Archiva-Seal™ to protect against Support-Induced Discoloration (SID). The result is an archival, durable surface suitable for professional work, detailed illustration, painting on panel, and complex mixed media techniques. Claybord is available in a 1/8"" flat profile and in 13-ply birch plywood cradled profiles at 7/8"", 1½"", and 2"" depths. For elegant display options, Ampersand’s 7/8"" Floaterframe is designed to accommodate both the 1/8"" flat and 7/8"" cradled Claybord panels, while the 1½"" Floaterframe is a perfect fit for the 1½"" cradle. The 2"" cradle features an elegant, substantial profile that stands on its own as a statement piece without a frame. Handcrafted in the USA using FSC-certified materials. ## Features - Claybord has a velvety smooth finish- very absorbent and ph neutral - Perfect surface for pencil, india ink, acrylic, gouache, alcohol ink and oils - Bonds well with adhesives to mount paper and fabrics - Create gifts and wearables - 1 x 1 inch - 1/8 inch depth - pack of 24 ## Technical Specifications | Specification | Value | |---------------|-------| | Asin | B08M6D7QFF | | Best Sellers Rank | #114,055 in Arts, Crafts & Sewing (See Top 100 in Arts, Crafts & Sewing) #4 in Multimedia Surfaces | | Brand Name | Ampersand Art Supply | | Color | White | | Customer Reviews | 4.6 4.6 out of 5 stars (9) 4.6 out of 5 stars | | Item Dimensions L X W | 1"L x 1"W | | Item Highlight | Kaolin Clay Painting Panel for Acrylic, Ink, Watercolor & Mixed Media | Ultra-Smooth, Reworkable Surface | | Item Type Name | Art Tiles for small paintings, crafts, handmade jewelry, DIY creative projects, and collage | | Item Weight | 0.06 kg | | Manufacturer | Ampersand Art Supply | | Manufacturer Part Number | CBS011 | | Material Type | Wood, Kaolin Clay | | Model Number | CBS011 | | Number Of Items | 24 | | Paint Type | Acrylic,Gouache | | Shape | square | | Size | 1" x 1" - Pack of 24 | | Unit Count | 1 Count | | Upc | 707310511119 | | Warranty Description | No warranty. | ## Images ![Ampersand Claybord | 1x1 - 24pk | 1/8" Flat | Ink & Acrylic Painting Panel - Image 1](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/71IVtgRV2GL.jpg) ![Ampersand Claybord | 1x1 - 24pk | 1/8" Flat | Ink & Acrylic Painting Panel - Image 2](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/71z-Tb-Tg5L.jpg) ![Ampersand Claybord | 1x1 - 24pk | 1/8" Flat | Ink & Acrylic Painting Panel - Image 3](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/61VJX3HzEdL.jpg) ![Ampersand Claybord | 1x1 - 24pk | 1/8" Flat | Ink & Acrylic Painting Panel - Image 4](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/71VeywFocrL.jpg) ![Ampersand Claybord | 1x1 - 24pk | 1/8" Flat | Ink & Acrylic Painting Panel - Image 5](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/81o035mpB8L.jpg) --- ## Why Shop on Desertcart? - 🛒 **Trusted by 1.3+ Million Shoppers** — Serving international shoppers since 2016 - 🌍 **Shop Globally** — Access 737+ million products across 21 categories - 💰 **No Hidden Fees** — All customs, duties, and taxes included in the price - 🔄 **15-Day Free Returns** — Hassle-free returns (30 days for PRO members) - 🔒 **Secure Payments** — Trusted payment options with buyer protection - ⭐ **TrustPilot Rated 4.5/5** — Based on 8,000+ happy customer reviews **Shop now:** [https://www.desertcart.us/products/272333918-ampersand-claybord-1x1-24pk-1-8-flat-ink-and-acrylic](https://www.desertcart.us/products/272333918-ampersand-claybord-1x1-24pk-1-8-flat-ink-and-acrylic) --- *Product available on Desertcart United States of America* *Store origin: US* *Last updated: 2026-11-03*
