This set of science kit includes 2 oz educational ferrofluid, one petri dish, a plastic dropper and a pair of gloves. Together with your magnet, it can show the magnetic field via the magnetic liquid - ferrofluid. The following is the list of the items included, One petri dish, in the dimensions of 100mm x 15mm or 50mm x 9.5mm 2 ounce bottle of ferrofluid A pair of rubber gloves A plastic dropper This item is great for teaching kids about magnetism and has a lot of fun! What is Ferrofluid? In short, it is a liquid that responds to magnets and magnetic fields. The longer answer is ferrofluid is an extremely fine powder, coated with a soap-like material called a surfactant, suspended in a mineral oil liquid base. The resulting magnetic suspension is called a ferrofluid. When no magnetic field is present, ferrofluid behaves and flows like a normal liquid. However, when a magnet or magnetic field is introduced, the ferrofluid is attracted to the field. Spikes then form along the magnetic field lines when the magnetic surface force exceeds the stabilizing effects of fluid weight and surface tension. Note: The ferrofluid leaves permanent stains to fabric, pvc counter and furniture. the ferrofluid will also be attracted to magnets when close to it. Please operate carefully to avoid spills.

Review: Cool stuff! - I'm not a chemist, but it seems to be the real deal. If you want to make a display just add one pipette squeeze to a 1:1 ratio of distilled water to isopropyl alcohol. I used 99% isopropyl but I'm told also rubbing alcohol works well.

**Q: Is it a cheap set or is it real ferrofluid**
A: This is not cheap set but an education FerroFluid. It is not for tweeters or industrial uses. There is only one maker as we know of.

**Q: Is the product instruction manual and msds for this ferrofluid available online?**
A: Instructions: wear gloves and put plastic wrap down before use. Use includes repulsion or attraction using preferably nedymium magnets. It's all really common sense. Just google ferrofluid msds. It will stain skin, clothes, and most porous surfaces.

**Q: what liquid could this be suspended in so that you can watch the fferrofluid without it "wetting" the sides of the glass, rendering it unviewable?**
A: Dunno. The iron powder, which is black, would turn any liquid black.

**Q: Can this be used as magnetic ink in a printer or can this be combine with ink to make it magnetic?**
A: I think that could mess up the printer especially if there are metal components for the liquid to stick on. It is not very powerful so I’m not sure if the diluted amount mixed in ink would give a magnetic field to attract metal. It is a very thin liquid that might bleed through paper. It is also stains everything.
