The butter-like texture of artists tube oil paints needs knives that are simultaneously flexible in a soft kind of way, but have good, lively spring too. The blades also need to be fine, thin enough but sturdy. This set of painting knives delivers effortlessly on all most important characteristics as noted just above. All blades are stainless high quality tempered steel, great spring, great flexibility, enabling easily the handling of buttery oil paints, with accuracy, delicacy and their offset position relatively to the wooden handles, makes them very easy to use, whether your oil painting artwork is standing vertically on an easel, or horizontally on a workbench. The blades go up to a very sturdy rod which is firmly set into the wooden handle. Wooden handles are a good size and shape, although I found the finish was not as smooth as I would prefer, but I resolved this easily, by giving the handles an extra 3 coats of Polyvine Wax Water based varnish, followed by a rub with a very fine scotch brite pad.
