Can someone explain to me in layman's terms what it is?** A: These PoE Injectors are very useful for three reasons: (1) If you don't have a Layer 2/3 switch that has a PoE capability, this will allow you to provide power to a PoE-enabled device so that it can be used. Without it, a PoE-enabled device would need a separate power supply that you would need to provide. (2) If you need to place a PoE device in a location where there is no power outlet available, you could place this PoE Injector in a location up to 300-feet away where there is a power outlet available, and then you can run a CAT-5/6 cable to the location where you want the device to be. (3) Finally, these PoE Injectors come in handy when you just want to work on a PoE-enable device in a stand-alone environment where you won't have to connect it to a PoE-enabled switch. For example, there were times when I wanted to configure my PoE-enabled Wireless Access Point (WAP) on my desk before I connected it to my network.
