Functional, perhaps, but I didn't and wouldn't try after giving them a few turns.HOWEVER: I didn't buy these for the tuning machines. These buttons fit Gotoh heads and these complete tuners are about half as expensive than replacement Gotoh buttons. Finish isn't perfect, but isn't bad.
