The thickness is noticeable at the bottom of your foot. **Q: why do the more expensive ones have rubber and less cotton?** A: I’m not exactly sure. I bought the black ones for my husband. They are thin and tight. Very low cotton content. Hope that helps. **Q: Listing states "count" per package... is that individual socks or pairs?** A: In this case, it is pairs. It's good you ask. Some are sold as individual socks. Huh! **Q: Do these get fuzz balls?** A: No. I love these socks. After several washings they fit as sung as the day I bought them and they do not get the little balls of fuzz that others I've bought tend to.
