The carabiners appear to be good quality and made from stainless steel, but they are martensitic stainless, meaning that they are still weakly attracted to a magnet. I expect that they will have a tendency to snap down onto the magnet when throwing the magnet into the river. That will sort of defeat using the side pull to keep the magnet facing the river bottom.
