Review: A piece of the heavens - What a great piece of the very difficult finds. This came with a certificate of authenticity and it’s a perfect piece to go along with my collection. Meteorites are hard to come by and I was surprised to find this as cheap as it was and being fully intact. It’s composed of what our planet core is, iron and nickel, but it’s a known meteor that is documented. I couldn’t be more pleased as I have a piece of space debris from the Campo Del Cielo Crater that also is the very material King Tuts dagger was made from. It’s value is minimal on here but to me it’s a priceless piece of significance because of the history. I’ve spent much more for much less and I’d say if you want a real meteor that traveled the cosmos and just can’t go to these places like myself then go to them. This is a real documented meteor with the USGS and other organizations. There are many places you can get samples of this meteor but I’d beware because I have been victim of fakes. I was directed by a meteor site to them and they are legit.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: I just wanted to know if its real shouldn't the seller know for sure without a doubt**
A: The original Campo del Cielo meteor exploded in the atmosphere, much like the Chelyabinsk meteor over Russia in 2013, but on a much grander scale. The Chelyabinsk meteor is estimated to have been 20m in diameter, and it produced an airburst of approximately 500 kilotons. The Campo del Cielo meteor was probably more like 50m in diameter, so it would have been a multi-megaton explosion in the upper atmosphere. The resulting strewn field is 2 miles wide, more than 11 miles long, and includes at least 26 craters with diameters of up to 100 meters; the impact of the fragment that produced the 100-meter crater would itself have been multi-kiloton event.

Five minutes of image searching for Campo del Cielo pieces will turn up many authenticated examples with the same general appearance, like angular chewed gum with fracture lines and surface pitting. Campo del Cielo is one of the least expensive meteorites to obtain, with prices around $1/gram still being pretty common. With such distinctive morphology and such low prices, it’s probably much less expensive to simply buy a real piece of Campo than to fake one, especially at small sizes.

If you’re interested in obtaining a meteorite or starting a collection, I have two pieces of advice. The first is, buy from reputable dealers. Many honest dealers are members of the International Meteorite Collections Association and will list their IMCA member number wherever they do business. There are good dealers who are not IMCA members for various reasons – some just don’t like clubs and the politics that sometimes comes along with membership – but it’s a start. Also check seller feedback if you buy from online markets like Amazon and eBay. And use search tools to do quick checks on individual dealers; the meteorite collecting community is pretty vigilant about detecting and outing bad actors.

The second and probably more important guideline is to educate yourself. Spend a week of evenings looking through websites and online ads and learning to know what to look for in genuine meteors. It’s not completely foolproof – a few unscrupulous people will pick up bits of inexpensive recent falls and try to pass them off as examples of rare and valuable historical meteorites, for example – but at least you’ll develop the knowledge to tell genuine meteorites from “meteorwrongs”. Good hunting!

**Q: How many would i need to purchase to forge mjolnir? my buddy thor keeps "misplacing" his and the frost giants are getting bold...**
A: You wouldn't need any, Mjolnir is made of Uru metal not Iron nickel meteorite. you would also need a forge powered by a Neutron Star.

**Q: What is the best way to clean a mereorite when it has rusting? Or else how should I prevent it from atmospheric oxidation?**
A: CAUTION !
You're getting some bad advice here, do none of the things advised here. The best and simplest way to remove rust without damaging your iron-nickel meteorite and getting perfect rust removal might be right under your sink, "CLR" you can get it at Walmart for a few bucks. CLR, (calcium-lime-rust) remover is safe, cheap come and 100% effective. Simply drop your meteorite into an undiluted amount of CLR sufficient enough to completely cover the meteorite, it will come out rust free in about 4 to 5 hours, after which simply rinse off with water. It will not discolor, stain, or alter your meteorite in any way, I've used this technique for decades. If you have difficulty believing this, purchase some CLR, find the rustiest object you can and test it on that, you'll be amazed.

**Q: What are these small wood chips embeded in the meteorite?**
A: 3,000 degrees Fahrenheit is the temperature that meteorites reach when hitting the earth surface. Most types of wood will start combusting at about 300 degrees. Therefore THERE IS NO WOOD LEFT TO FUSE WITH!
IF you have wood in your "meteorite"....then it's NOT a meteorite!

We have a little curio table display we’ve started for our kids who are homeschooled. We’ve been collecting all sorts of things from nature as a hands on science approach. This was a great addition. We ordered the XL one and it came true to size weighing 74g. It’s a great size for little kids to be able to handle. Our two year old might have loved it the most. The little treasure chest it came it made it lots of fun for my kids. And they loved learning about it from the info in the certificate of authenticity. We 100% recommend this to anyone thinking about it.
