After I use this DC-4000 pump, I can't even hear the pump is working, all I can hear is the water running. When I first install it, the pump was set to pulse pumping mode, without the user manual, I can not figure out how to change it to the proper setting. Those setting does not make sense by just look at the controller display. After I read the manual and programmed it to the setting I want, it works perfectly. From time to time, I turn off the power to do the water change, the setting will remain after I power it back on. Overall, just need to read the manual, program to the setting you want, then it works perfectly. I have used the email address on the box as well as tried messaging them here.... no luck **Q: How do i set this product to be on a steady flow. The manual isn't clear.** A: If you press the mode button it switches between 3 digit numbers starting with a 1 or a 2. anything starting with 1 is steady flow. If you decide to use wave mode though the number preceded by 1 also affects wave mode. The number preceded by 1 appears to affect duration of the pulse where as the number preceded by 2 affects the time between pulses if the fist number is set to high the pump runs continuously regardless because the cycle doesn't end before the second begins. So long story short if I set the first setting to 101-104 then set the second number to 209-210 my tank really rocks and roles. Timing and duration are key to getting a wave going. **Q: Can I use this pump externally?** A: Yes and No. Mine leaked external. I had to silicone it by unscrewing it and sealing it completely with silicone. Now it doesn't leak and is external. Caveat Emptor.
