If you have joint problems, poor circulation, or are recovering from an illness, or even abuse, this is one vitamin you don't want to miss. It causes flushing and that's a good thing. That means it dilates microscopic blood vessels, improves circulation, which in turn makes your immune system a lot more efficient, and is overall one of the greatest discoveries for me. As for dosage, I was concerned about it being 500mg (the most I ever took was 250mg), but I recently learned that much higher dosages work even better! So I tried taking one pill in the AM and another one in the PM and felt better. Some, who have been in terrible shape or are recovering from an illness, are taking up to 3000mg per day. (Usually in three doses of 1000mg each). The flushing will be less pronounced as you continue taking it; that does not mean Niacin is not working, just that your body is using it more efficiently. It is also a sign that you can increase the dosage, if you think you need more of it. My impression is that true benefits start at 1000mg / day.
