I first bought the slightly smaller cage then upgraded to this one. I have 2 aducockatiels who find this cage big enough to constantly mate in and they now wish to lay their 3rd clutch. So they are very happy. I still have 2 8 months old in with them and is big enough for the 4. It is not the pretiest cage- but great for the birds- every inch is usable space. My birds very active- I put ladders of all kinds running top to bottom in back and love to watch them- up and down all day - run run run! **Q: Can the bottom grate be removed so my birds can walk on the bottom plastic pan? If yes, does it leave space to outside? I do not like wire grates.** A: Yes, it can be removed, however, I wouldn't recommend it because it leaves a gap that could lead to an injured bird. I do not like my birds to walk on grates either so I put a layer of newspaper on top of the grate. The birds have a flat surface to forage on and it makes cleaning the bottom of the cage very easy--just change the newspaper, wrapping up whatever messes the birds have made in it.
