Review: A beautifully sharp, reliable everyday prime that keeps surprising me - I’ve been shooting with the Nikon NIKKOR Z 50mm f/1.8 S, which is perfectly compatible with my Z6III. After spending time with it for portraits and close‑up work, I’m genuinely impressed by how consistently this lens delivers. Mounted on the camera, it feels solid without being heavy, and the clean, minimalist design fits the Z system perfectly. Where it really shines is image quality. I've tested this for a few days now with a mix ofe of self-portraits, and some indoor shots. The self‑portraits came out with crisp detail and a natural, flattering rendering that didn’t require much editing. The autofocus locked onto my eye instantly and stayed there, even with subtle movement. The colours are rich but not exaggerated, and the contrast straight out of the camera gives images a polished look. I also shot some lilac roses, and the close‑up performance surprised me. The lens isn’t a macro lens, but the detail, micro‑contrast, and gentle fall‑off into the background made the flowers look almost sculptural. The bokeh is smooth and creamy, especially at f/1.8, and the subject separation feels very “premium prime”. This lens will definitely become one of my travel lenses, particularly because it is weathersealed and therefore should be very durable when shooting around town. Overall, this lens has quickly become one of my favourites. It’s reliable, sharp at every aperture, and versatile enough for portraits, everyday shooting, and detail work. If you own a Z‑mount camera, this is one of those lenses that just makes photography feel easy and enjoyable.

I’ve been shooting with the Nikon NIKKOR Z 50mm f/1.8 S, which is perfectly compatible with my Z6III. La lente più nitida che abbia mai avuto, ottima per Nikon a livello di risolvenza e contrasto nell'immagine. La qualità dello sfocato è piacevole e morbida e l'autofocus è molto silenzioso, anche se ho notato che il mio esemplare ha dei motori di messa a fuoco leggermente più rumorosi di altri che ho provato. A quanto pare c'è un po' di variabilità, ma non crea nessun problema in video. Eccellente, 5 stelle meritate
