So I would think that for a short section/small number of LEDs it could be powered directly from the 3-wire connections. But if a long string of LEDs is going to be used, lots of current/power is needed and connecting to a beefy power supply would be requires so the loose wires can be used for that. **Q: I want to run 4 -16.4 feet strips together , can i use the bluetooth sp611e sync music controller instead of the sp601e controller ????** A: there are two output , each output port can control max 600LED **Q: I bought a ws2812 led strip but what else do i need to use it?** A: At the very least you need a +5V DC power supply and a data signal. That could be from a Raspberry Pi or an Arduino.
