However, Sums in Space is a more complete game because it teaches ALL single digit addition and subtraction, 0 through 9, versus sum swamp which only teaches 1 through 6. The largest difference with this game is with the second way to play the game - The Cooperative rules. Sum Swamp does not offer any sort of cooperative version and it is what makes this game unique. In the cooperative version kids are working together to get all their astronauts back to the ship before time runs out and the ship blasts off. Cooperative rules add a layer of social skills to the game (learning to communicate, cooperate and coordinate a common goal) that Sum Swamp can't offer. In short - the classic version of the game is very similar to Sum Swamp as is natural, the cooperative version works on the same math skills plus social skills. The six sided die has 3 plus signs and 3 for subtraction. So 9+7 is a possible outcome. The players must answer the equation in order to know how many spaces they must move. **Q: Where are the rules of this game? These games focus on single digit addition facts. A 9 year old should be working on multi digit addition and subtraction in addition to learning multiplication facts. Sum Swamp does both addition and subtraction, so it's a little more advanced.
