Review: Higher cost, but healthier and cat doesn't over-feed on it - Our cat loves this stuff. The cost is justified, because it's a higher quality food that our cat eats less of and stays skinny. We free feed, and he grazes all day. He'll go through maybe 1 bowl of this stuff every 2 days. Doesn't have a bunch of fillers that just make cats diabetic and lazy. He's an 11 year old cat and still running around and playing like he's a young cat, because we feed him good quality food.
Review: Great as treats and as food - softer fur!!! - My cats REALLY love the greenies salmon treats, and they also were only eating the Hills science diet chicken cat food. I wanted to find a food that was more like their treats since it seemed like they weren’t really interested in their food anymore. When I compared the ingredients from the greenies to this food, it was a pretty similar breakdown, and also salmon flavored, so I bought a bag as a tester. When I first opened it I was disappointed in how tiny the shapes are - they are really small shapes for adult cats IMO but I was like, maybe the cats won’t mind. So I first mixed some of the food in with the greenies treats, and it took one cat a few days to eat it, but then he trusted it and started eating it as a treat without hesitation. My other cat ate it up right away! Anyhow the cats loved it so much in their treats and were still less interested in their regular food, even though it was obvious that they liked the big shapes and liked crunching on them. (One cat in particular likes to be petted while eating, and he’s always turn around and smile after crunching) So I decided to mix this salmon food into their chicken food, to help them eat more food and less treats. And it worked!! They were eating more regularly and when they wanted treats, their meows were much less desperate sounding. So for a month I kept testing out this salmon food vs greenies as a treat, and honestly they still love their greenies but they LOVE this food as a treat and will eat it plain now, without any greenies. In fact, they wanted to eat it so much I ran out of the salmon food, and had a week of lag time between my subscriptions and they were so impatient. Anyhow! The most interesting thing about this month testing period was: I started noticing mood differences in one of my cats. He used to be pretty cranky, or maybe just frustrated. He would act like he wanted to be pet, but if you pet more than just around his fur - like along his back - he started to get frustrated and flick his tail, then snap. I honestly thought it was his personality, and just tried to be more verbally friendly instead of petting him. His fur also looked beautiful, he is an immaculate groomer anyway, and it always kind of stood out away from his body and smelled so good - kindof like straw. Like a nice, dry, warm earthy smell. So as the month progressed with this food as treats etc, I noticed his mood changed and he seemed to want to snuggle more and get more pets. It started slowly, but it was definitely noticeable. And eventually I started to put it together, when I noticed he wasn’t smelling like straw anymore, and his fur was looking sleeker. !! I think he needed more oil I’m his diet, and I think his little furs and skin were just sensitive!!! Because now his fur is tremendously soft, and I can pet him for , maybe almost 5 minutes? And he doesn’t flick his tail anymore!! He seems so much happier too, just generally less agitated. So that’s the long story. What I’ve determined in this test is: the tiny shapes from Blue are perfect when mixed with the bigger shapes from the Hills brand. Both of my cats eat their food on their own now, and without hesitation. They still like treats time, but it’s much less demanding than before, and they don’t seem to mind if they only get treatsed 4 times a day. They LOVE this food on its own now, when I use it as treats, but they especially love it when just a couple of pieces of greenies are placed on top. I’m happy because now my subscriptions for all the products are in sync, and my mix ratio (pictured) is perfect for my cats and my budget. SUPER happy I found this food. Love you guys wanted to share the whole story because it’s so much more than just the food.

**Q: Is this for diabetic cats?**
A: Catinfo.org has some good information on feeding diabetic cats. Diabetic cats should eat foods that are less than 10% carbs. That's hard to find.  The owner of that site is a vet and recommends not feeding dry at all, but while transitioning she uses Evo which is around 5% carbs. Maybe 9%. I forget now. That said, my diabetic cat was a dry food junkie. He wouldn't eat at one point so I had to find a dry that wouldn't raise his blood sugar. I ended up using Young Again Pet Foods Zero Carb dry food. It's 0.4% carbs. He had no sugar spikes while eating it. He even went into remission (no insulin) while eating. It's expensive and special order but cost pennies next to the cost of insulin.

**Q: Is it smart to start an old cat on this high a level of protein? My 14 yr old is very heathy but has been eating mainly Purina One for the last 5 yrs.**
A: I know this question is old, but I still wanted to answer. I concur with BC- my vet said the same thing- that all of these foods claiming to be high in protein like it's a good thing is very hard on kidneys and is one of the leading causes of kidney failure. He also said once my cats get to be senior (age 7), that they should specifically be in senior food as these offer a lower level of protein so it's easier on their kidneys.

**Q: What is the percentage of carbohydrates?**
A: Hi, not sure about the carbs but it should be low. There are no grains in the formula and what caught my eye was 40% protein and 18% fat. The fats will turn to sugars but doesn't seem to affect my diabetic cat.

**Q: The Amazon Prime listing says it ships in 1 to 2 MONTHS.  Did they mean to put DAYS?  Ships in 1-2 days?**
A: No, when Amazon is out of stock on an item, they will post an update as to when they expect it back in, which on this particular item is 1 -2  months.
