After nine days one of the blades bent to where it wouldn't even close. I ordered two more Schrade knives just in case I lost one. It's a solid, well built knife. THE BUCK IS NOT A BAD KNIFE. The blades are thinner. It was not meant to be used the way I used it. The spring is the Schrade is stronger so it takes stronger fingers to open. There is not a place to press on back to release if that is what you mean. I would say that they snap in place more than lock. It takes considerably more effort to close them once the blade "snaps" into place. I use this knife constantly and although my previous knife was a litte larger and did lock into place with a release "button" on back, I have had no problem with it shutting on me and I had cleaned probably 100 fish with this, which is a slippery job and never had a problem.
