I have always been pleased with Pennzoil. I had to pull the valve cover and the internals of the engine were clean, no varnish or anything. So why did I decide to try Motul? My FIAT burns a ton of oil. I typically burn a quart every 600 - 900 miles! FIAT's require the oil level to be correct as they use an electro-hydraulic unit to operate the intake valves, called the Multiair brick. I check the oil level very frequently. I've researched lots of synthetic oil alternatives for the FIAT and decided to give Motul a try. Currently, the Motul oil is nice and clean at 400 miles of driving, the oil level still reads full. I would have expected to be down maybe a 1/3 of a quart by now. With Motul, the engine sounds the same - no, it's not mechanically quieter and doesn't have more perceived power. But at least for now, this oil is not going out the tail pipe at the rate that Pennzoil did. We shall see how it does after a couple thousand miles. In the meantime, I ordered another 5 liter jug of Motul. Update: 1000 miles and used 1/2 of a quart. Oil still looks clean. Probably will stick with Motul. Allows me to add a bit more in after some miles to top off my oil level. Car runs solid and performs well without any concerns. Highly recommend this oil for you Rex or turbo owners.
