I like that it is made from steel versus plastic. The door that opens is 14x14, the opening in the wall needs to be about 14 3/8 by 14 3/8. The flange around the outside is about 1 inch for a total dimension of 16x16. The door latch requires a flat screwdriver to operate and is really stiff to turn. As someone else said, there is no spring on the door, so once the latch is turned, you need to use your flat screwdriver to pop the door open. I wish the latch operated more easily, but I don't really care since I don't think I will need to get behind the door more than once every few years. Review: Excellent - if you are thinking about an access door get this instead of the plastic one!!!!! - These are by far the best access doors I have run across. They fit perfectly (well, almost perfectly) between two 16"-on-center studs and provide the perfect size access door for electrical work. I am putting one of these above and below the main panel so I can easily run new wire when a new circuit is needed. What I really like about these doors is the high quality. I have seen a number of access doors made of plastic and they tend to look like crap. This is a very high quality metal/steal door and the movement on it is perfect if mounted correctly. Plastic doors look like crap -this one looks awesome. I also have to commend the very fast shipping on this item - it was not available desertcart Prime so I was skeptical it would arrive before the drywall work started and figured I would just have to go back and cut the whole later. but to my surprise the shipping was as fast as Prime and i was able to get these marked so the drywall could be cut at install time for easy mounting.
