I only had my 2.5hp outboard, but it adequately powered the fully laden vessel through a river and marinas to Long Island Sound, albeit at a slow but steady pace. The catamaran design is a compromise. The boat has tons of room. It also makes it easy for swimmers and swimming dogs to board. However, if a passenger is too close to the bow of the boat while underway, the boat can easily be swamped by a wave or wake. While swamped, the catamaran will still be afloat but it is tedious to pull the drain plugs and to get the water back out. One of the one way valves for the drain holes has already broken off, the the quality of some components is not great. However, this boat is well worth the money. High winds are a issue at high speeds if you catch one underneath the hull it will go airborne! Can be a blast but it can be dangerous for young folks who are not heavy enough to keep it from flipping over. **Q: How is the freeboard?... Does it take wakes and waves good or is it a wet ride and lets water in the boat? Also can you stand up and cast/fish?** A: Basically it rides on top of the water and skips across the tops depending on how fast you are going. I use it as my dingy for my cruising yacht. So I am using it in the ocean with some pretty large waves. It’s much more stable than my previous dingy which had a higher freeboard. It has a very low freeboard, it can be a wet ride going fast in rough water, if you slow down it is a dry ride. I like the low freeboard and the open bow which makes boarding easy at the dingy dock and at the beach. I have a 3 yr old son and I basically bought it for this reason as it is much safer for him and the benches are lower so his feet are on the floor instead of dangling. When we were in rough water he would bounce off the seat and land on the floor because he couldn’t stabilize himself on my previous dingy. It’s great for small pets too. The floor is a separate inflatable section that can be removed and used to float on like a platform, great for the beach and for soaking up some rays. It is fairly stable when in the dingy as long as you are 200lbs or less and it is fully inflated. Otherwise it can be a bit spungy. It is not what I would call a great fishing boat, I would think that you would want something with a rigid floor if you are standing up in it casting. Also losing a hook or other small sharp objects can end up between the floor and the tubes which would poke a hole in it. I was working on my Yacht and dropped a screw driver and didn’t realize it until it wore a hole in the tube which was not in a good location to get a patch on it. Overall I am very pleased with the performance, it’s twice as fast as my previous dingy with a 9.9hp 4 stroker it will run along at over 25mph with me and my son onboard which makes getting around exploring much more fun. About the only draw back from my experience is catching a wave at high speed and then getting wind under the hull, will cause it to go airborne like a small plane. My criteria was that it needed hold 2 people, cooler, and a dog. It easily does all of that. I'm 6'1 230 lbs and I fit comfortably on the boat with stadium seat I attached to the bench. The ride can get a little wet especially if a person or dog is on the bow, but the boat drains easily while paddling and in my case I put a 55lb thrust trolling motor on it. The trolling motor has plenty of power, I can have a fully loaded boat and tow my lazy kayak friends behind with no issue. Its a great swim deck and that probably my favorite part about it. Great boat. Its also light and my GF and I just put it on the top of my SUV. When deflated I can hoist it into the car on my own.
