Will this seal it?** A: I would not use plumber's putty as it is rather soft after curing -- you will be stepping on it at times and might displace it enough to leak. I had several cracks in my fiberglass bathtub and used a quality grade of clear epoxy -- where you mix the resin and hardener, as two separate components, together and then apply to the crack. To insure good adhesion of the epoxy, I first cleaned any residual body oils from the fiberglass surface near the crack with a solvent. Then I used a coarse sandpaper to clean and roughen the bathtub surface in the area of the crack where the glue would touch (maybe 3/8" wide along the crack path) -- so the glue would "get a good grip" on the otherwise smooth fiberglass. I had 3 separate cracks, each 2 or 3 inches long that I treated this way. I applied a bead of the clear epoxy directly over each crack -- a bead maybe 1/4" wide or so. I did not flatten the beads, but left them naturally rounded to give greater reinforcement to the crack. They will flatten a bit on their own as the epoxy cures. The result was good, with no leaks, though you can see the epoxy repair -- it is clear and the tub is light yellow fiberglass. I do not notice the epoxy when taking showers (I prefer showers to a sit-down bath) -- I don't feel the shallow beads of epoxy with my feet. At least, I don't notice them when I probably occasionally step on them. It's not a cosmetically-perfect repair, as you can see the repair, but it doesn't leak. I did this repair years ago and it is still holding. If you can find "bathtub repair paint" the same color as your bathtub, you could probably paint over the epoxy. I didn't try that, so don't know how well the fiberglass paint will stick to epoxy. Good luck. This repair may not look perfect, but it will save you a bunch of money over replacing a bathtub. I can't make any guarantees as (1) I'm not a plumber, (2) I am not there to look at your situation with the bathtub, so I can only give general hints on what worked for me. Your situation may be different from mine. Might be a good idea to ask a professional plumber what he thinks would work best -- without having to replace the bathtub. **Q: Can this putty be applied to a wet surface? I want to fix a leaking toilet until I can afford a plumber.** A: I cannot think of any place on a toilet where this product would fix a leak. **Q: My bathtub spout has been dripped and i removed it. plumbers putty has aged and cracked around pipe & spout. must i use new putty rather than silicon?** A: I'm not an expert, but I would probably go back with silicon.
