I think we get enthralled by trends and look for new, shiny toys. I used this through high school and college and then forgot about it until now, and at 50 I can say it's every bit as great as it was decades ago. Apply with a big brush to banish shine, put over sunblock or tinted moisturizer to give a flawless finish or use a puff alone or over foundation for evening, etc. I have very fair skin and translucent still blends perfectly. There is titanium dioxide in it though it no longer carries an SPF rating, but I'm happy putting it over block. I know the trend right now is to try to make our skin look like glass, but one in a million people will accomplish it. I'm not trying to influence anyone or be trendy; at 50 I'm more interested in highlighting what I have. If it's too matte a little bit of cream highlighter works fine, it doesn't accentuate my fine lines nor dry my already dry skin (obviously any powder can, so use your serum and moisturizer). It buffs and blurs and balances redness, and feels like nothing on my skin.
