Review: Everything you need (mostly, see comments) for R-12 or R-134a except the can tap. - I am not an A/C expert or even experienced in A/C systems diagnosis and recharging. The gauges were easy to assemble and use. The gauges are in Celsius as others have commented. The gauges come with everything needed for R-134a systems except the can tap, and the kit included an adapter to go from gauge set to the can tap that I purchased seperately (I purchased my R-134a can tap locally, but it is similar to the taps offered on desertcart by WINOMO or the Interdynamics DV-134). The gauge hose fit to the low side of an R-12 system with the R-134a quick coupler removed, but would require an adapter for the high side which I did not need or look into as I was only using it to fill one can into an old truck. I bought a Robinair 10102 side can tap for the R-12 can which worked well and had two different sized fittings, one of which was sized tor the gauges yellow hose which just screwed on and the other fitting on the Robinair side can tap accepts the adapter included in this kit if you wanted to do that for no reason and then screw the yellow hose to the adapter. So for R-12 system the gauges hose connections for the yellow and blue hoses screwed directly on the can tap fitting and the low side fitting in the vehicle. For the R-134a system the provided quick couplers in the kit fit on the high and low connections at the vehicle and the provided adapter in the kit fit to the can tap. The gauges worked properly for the two vehicles that I worked on today and altogether the quality appears to be average or acceptable. With this OrionMotorTech gauge set you can accurately see what is going on for an R-134a system (not for R-12 without the additional purchase of a high side adapter). These gauges are MUCH better for filling R-134a system than the R-134a refrigerant can with a one piece cheap gauge and short hose that is sold to fill systems. Those have always been frustratingly inaccurate in my experience and I think that they are worthless. As far as knowing what you are doing for the diagnosis and fill, accurate information on checking/filling and gauge pressure readings on the internet is not easily found, but this helped me: vehicleairconservices /page/gauge_readings . Start with the vehicle on and A/C off and use the associated pressure chart, I believe that this checks the system overall fill pressure and if it is low overall, probably needs a recharge. Then turn A/C on max with windows down and run vehicle to normal operating temp and use the A/C on chart. There is also some basic diagnosis info included. Use all of this information at your own risk. I’m not an expert as already stated, very much a novice on A/C systems, but I am a graduate level backyard mechanic. Good value for the money in my opinion.
Review: Does what I need for a great price - My evaporator core sprung a leak and after getting a couple of quotes, I decided a DIY fix was in order. This manifold gauge set wasn't my first choice, the other was sold out, but in hindsight this set has 1 ft longer hoses which made the AC work much easier. I had no trouble putting it together or hooking it up, the high side slid right on without any struggle. Seals were all good and I was able to successfully vacuum test my work for 12 hours without any leakage in the system or the gauges/hoses. Recharging the system was a breeze with the can tap adapter (not included!) and I felt much better doing the recharge with the gauges versus the prior work I've done with a single low side can tap and gauge. The high side connector did indeed stick after running the system for 30 minutes while I recharged the system and the root cause is very clearly thermal expansion. If I hook up the system when the system and car are cool, it pops right off without issue. Once the car and the system heat up, the connector and hoses heat up and then it becomes more difficult. In my case, I waited 5 minutes and the quick connect released without much fuss. I'm sure there is an engineering solution to this problem, but for the price I'm ok with waiting a few minutes. It gave me an excuse to have a beer and celebrate a successful AC repair!

## Questions & Answers

**Q: What are the three plastic ferrules and tiny brass plug used for?**
A: I suspect they are replacement seals for the valves on the manifold.

**Q: what fitting do i need to go from yellow hose to a fjc 6030 freon can tap. the can tap thread is much different than the hose or adapter.**
A: ACME Adapter Fitting: 1/4" SAE to 1/2" ACME. If you have the different screw thread, you can buy a suitable adapter online.

**Q: What is the acme adapter for it dont fit my top style can tap?**
A: This is for R12, R22, R502 and R134A Refrigerants. ACME Adapter fitting: 1/4" Male to 1/2" Female.

**Q: does this work on home AC units or only auto units**
A: COULD BE BOTH, There are two adapters on the red and blue hoses, they unscrew, and you can use them on residential units, HOWEVER, the automobile A/C uses a type of oil, and the HOME unit uses a different kind of oil, so IF you intermix the two, it "MAY" cause problems, that is why, professionals use two different set of guages, one for residential, and a different one for auto. AND ! The one for home maybe R-406 or R-22, has a background (Green) for that type of Freon, or Pink for R-410, and the one for Auto, has a background for say R-134, I forget that color.
You do this at your own risk.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Worked as Intended
*by C***C on August 29, 2018*

Trying to determine AC cooling issues without one of these hoses is nearly impossible. I noticed the mixed reviews but I took a chance. The hoses worked as intended and Confirmed that my ac is low on refrigerant. I was worried about the high pressure quick connector getting stuck. When I tried to get it off, using one hand it was very difficult. The trick is use both hands - one to pull down on the red collar but the second hand grabbing below the collar and push the hose upwards. This pull and push action will give you leverage and the collar will come off. The reason that it gets stuck is due to the high pressure. It is not a defective hose. The instructions were basic with no real details on how to connect the hoses. I wish they included that. I had to look up some how to videos and figured it out myself. I also wish they charged a bit more and included the adapter for the yellow hose. They did mention not included in the description though. I was able to charge my ac using another old low pressure hose that I had connected to a r134 can already. Overall, these hoses are a cheap investment and they served its purpose. I am a diy not a pro mechanic. So I do not plan on using these all the time.
