It's not too deep where they couldn't get in and bathe but it holds enough water for drinking and bathing. I like the semi-transparency of the plastic, it allows the birds to see that there's something in there. I've seen people write reviews where they said that when they tightened the nut to the birdcage that it caused the device to crack. Don't use your big monkey fingers and over wrench it, you just need to finger tighten it, that's it. I like the fact that the basin armature stays secure to the birdcage bars and you can swivel the water basin to counterclockwise and remove just the basin to clean it out and replace it. It is very easy folks, don't overthink it. By the way the size of this is perfect for parakeets, canaries, lovebirds. Not much bigger than that for bathing but fine for any size bird for drinking water.
