I was able to stuff 24 12oz cans into this bag in 3 layers of 8 cans, and still have room to roll the strap up with ease. There wasn't much room for ice in there, but you could still fit some. You could always cut it back to 16 or 18 cans and go with more ice, but I was going for maximum liquid with me. I tried to keep the bag out of the sun as much as possible which helped keep the cans cooler. I would say actual ice retention isn't super great, but it did fine for me in my situation. I wouldn't expect to keep this in the sun all day and have any ice left. The cooler went right between my legs in the kayak and it was a perfect all around fit. If you do anything similar I highly recommend this exact size, seemed about perfect. Review: Good cooler for motorcycle luggage - Good cooler. Held ice overnight and folds down well enough for motorcycle luggage. I got the 15L version and it's only big enough around to hold 3 cans before having to stack them.
