Designed for archival stability and vibrant color retention, these FSC-certified, eco-friendly panels resist warping and yellowing, making them ideal for oil, acrylic, and mixed media artists seeking museum-quality results with professional-grade durability. ## Description Ampersand Art Supply's Museum Series Gessobord is a truly archival surface for oil and acrylic painting. Gessobord is made from our premium warp-resistant 1/8" profile FSC-Certified Hardbord that is sealed and protected with our proprietary Archiva-Seal to prevent yellowing from Support Induced Discoloration (SID). Each panel is individually coated with a professional artists’ grade acid-free acrylic gesso for a slight, even texture. Artists choose wood painting panels because the surface offers more vibrant colors, allows for precise detail and is an overall better support than canvas for their artwork. Ampersand panels are strong enough to hold up to the most rigorous palette knife painting and heavy layers of collage and will not bow or flex like canvas. Only Ampersand builds cradles by hand with premium-grade, 13-ply birch plywood for maximum stability and a clean, finished look from edge to edge. Choose from 3/4", 1 1/2" and 2" deep cradles, offering support and presentation all-in-one. Gessobord is perfect for oil, acrylic, palette knife painting, plein air, fine brushwork, mixed media, and is also a great surface for mounting papers, photos, giclee's and canvas! All Ampersand Museum Series Gessobord panels are eco-friendly, formaldehyde-free, and proudly handcrafted in the USA Review: A Professional Standard for Permanent Works - Ampersand’s Gessobord is a masterfully engineered support that has become a staple in my studio. The Archiva-Seal technology provides peace of mind regarding long-term preservation, effectively preventing support-induced discoloration. Unlike standard gessoed wood, this surface offers a sophisticated, lightly sanded texture that provides exceptional brush control for fine detail work while remaining robust enough for heavier applications. The density of the hardboard eliminates the "bounce" of canvas, allowing for precise marks and stable layering. I particularly appreciate that these panels are ready for immediate use without the need for additional priming or sanding, which is a significant time-saver in a professional workflow. In addition to the ground being ready to use as is, it accepts basic lead carbonate in oil ground well, providing a versatile foundation for various layering techniques. Whether used for intricate glazing or more direct painting, the surface remains consistent and reliable. It is a high-quality, archival support that I trust for my finished works. I use walnut oil paints and mostly do nature and cat paintings and these are a great value and the size is really perfect for both doing smaller studies and for affordability for buyers. The texture has a small amount of dimple but ive never had a warped or bent one from ampersand and i've bought probably 50 or more of these. On a rare occasion the corners have been dinged up from shipping but usually their packing takes care of it well enough. A really high quality product for a budget price, especially if you can catch them on sale. ## Frequently Bought Together - Ampersand Art Supply Gesso Wood Painting Panel: Museum Series Gessobord, 6" x 6", 1/8" Flat Profile, Pack of 4 - Liquitex Professional Gesso Surface Prep Medium, 237ml (8.0 oz), Clear - Liquitex BASICS Gesso Surface Prep Medium, 473ml (16-oz) Bottle, White --- ## Why Shop on Desertcart? - 🛒 **Trusted by 1.3+ Million Shoppers** — Serving international shoppers since 2016 - 🌍 **Shop Globally** — Access 737+ million products across 21 categories - 💰 **No Hidden Fees** — All customs, duties, and taxes included in the price - 🔄 **15-Day Free Returns** — Hassle-free returns (30 days for PRO members) - 🔒 **Secure Payments** — Trusted payment options with buyer protection - ⭐ **TrustPilot Rated 4.5/5** — Based on 8,000+ happy customer reviews **Shop now:** [https://www.desertcart.us/products/23389776-ampersand-gessobord-6x6-1-8-flat-4pk-oil-and-acrylic](https://www.desertcart.us/products/23389776-ampersand-gessobord-6x6-1-8-flat-4pk-oil-and-acrylic) --- *Product available on Desertcart United States of America* *Store origin: US* *Last updated: 2026-10-24*
