I'm using it to take a feed from a laptop into hi-fi speakers so that I can watch catch-up tv, YouTube etc with better sound than the built-in laptop speakers. However from experience as I having recently fitted a car radio it should be possible to wire it into the ignition feed of the car to the radio, so that it is only on, providing the on button is depressed, when the ignition is on. If you already have a radio in the car then check it's wiring. Red wire is normally 12v switched and black is negative. You will need to source an appropriate 12v plug (5A 12V 5.5mm Diameter).
