Otherwise, the 'cube' freezes first around its entire perimeter - then freezes inward toward the center. There is no place for the trapped air and impurities to go so it stays in the ice. Boiling water, distilled water, whatever - none of that will work. If you want clear ice, you must freeze it using differential freezing (google it) - from the top down - which allows all of the air and impurities to be pushed down and out of the ice mold. **Q: Would these work with concrete?** A: Hello, Thanks for your question! The size of the skull ice cubes is the key! They are bigger than the conventional ice cubes so they melt slowly. Once I counted how many minutes a half glass of water with a single skull ice cube takes to melt down completely and it took over 30 minutes.
