Item supplied not what is advertised

*by B***M on Reviewed in the United Kingdom on April 30, 2018*

The pictured fixing, 'Rawlplug 07-nnn' (the 'nnn' is a code for the quantity) is really great for very thin cavities behind plaster board. In fact I don't know of anything better. But the items delivered were not these. They were the 'Rawlplug DRA02', which is much too long for my purposes and I have returned them. Moreover, many other suppliers also advertise '07' Rawlplugs, with a similar picture, but on deeper investigation are actually supplying DRA02.I have been in correspondence with Rawlplug about this and it might be that they kept the same product code for a while, albeit redesigned, and retailers, including Amazon, have not updated their sales material. The good news is that Rawlplug is most probably, quite soon now, going to relaunch a product very similar to the old '07' item.Incidentally, I always drill a pilot hole first. Apart from making the initial entry of the plug easier, it locates it better.Rating it here is tricky, The advertised item is great: the item supplied is probably good for its application, but not what is advertised.

    Standard Problems, but overall good

As my house is mostly plasterboard, I've used a lot of these types of fixings in the past. The key, I've found, is to make sure you pre-drill a small hole before screwing these in (also, be aware of the studs as these won't fare well!)That said, the end still has a habit of occasionally bending (rendering the fixing useless). In my opinion these seem a little longer than the ones I've used in the past, but I guess that just means a little added security.Overall, pretty happy with these! :)

    Simple and strong

These are great fixings, I wouldn't use anything else in plasterboard. One word of caution however; they are 'selfdrill' but in certain situations you may want to pre-drill a small hole for them rather than relying on them to 'selfdrill'. This is just down to different plasterboard and whats on the surface, paint/wallpaper I think, as sometimes they can crack/bubble the plasterboard. So if you're unsure, drill first.I've used these to fix some really heavy stuff like big screen plasma TVs.Another good use that's not really mentioned is if you want to regularly screw / unscrew the fixings (I used it for a hidden safe!) As the threads don't wear out.
