Easy to use/set up, just unroll it and place it on the desk. I use this for the MacBook/Mouse usage. I didn't really notice much of a new smell to it so this wasn't an issue. It took a few days to flatten out on the edges (to be expected) but this didn't impact the functionality of the mat. It's smooth enough to not cause any friction to the mouse glide. It's large enough to protect the desk area with a bit of room either side of the MacBook for the mouse, phone, notepad...anything else really. I opted for Alaskan Grey and it looks nice. The only minor issue I have is where the hand sits for the mouse use there is a dark grey patch formed that doesn't wipe off. So that takes the look off it a bit.
