Hessian is a coarsely textured fabric naturally derived from the jute plant. Also known as burlap, it is an open weave, breathable yet thick fabric that has many uses in sewing and upholstery. Hessian has a classic, “natural” beauty due to its unrefined natural colouring and roughspun feel. Create long-lasting practical rustic decorations such as table runners or farmhouse furnishings. Hessian is also a perfect base fabric for screenprinting or applying paint. Available in 1m, 5m, 10m, 20m, 50m or custom metre lengths. Order in one for a continuous piece of fabric! Upholster furniture Use hessian to create or refresh armchairs and sofas. The fabric is great for holding cushioning in place or protecting springs. Great fabric for beginners Practice sewing with hessian before starting to work with more delicate or costly premium fabrics. Use in landscaping and gardening Hessian retains moisture, making it a cost-effective outdoor fabric for gardeners and landscapers. Create unique prints and art This fabric absorbs paint pigment wonderfully. Use this fabric as a base to create exciting prints and artwork. This 1m textured burlap is great for using to protect plant, vegetable, flower and grass seeds from birds or insects and as frost protection during colder months. Add to hanging baskets as a base for potted plants, use underneath stone and gravel sections, garden troughs, wreaths, relining wire planters or line wall garden baskets. - USE AT SCHOOL OR CREATE AWESOME ARTS & CRAFTS FOR HOME: Hessian is a teacher’s secret weapon to customise school display pin boards and get children to be more hands-on in their education. Biodegradable and durable, use the jute fabric to create table runners, wall hangings, upholstery and rustic decorations, rugmaking, backdrops for weddings and special occasions. You could even use this jute fabric as a rustic alternative to wrapping paper for gifts and presents! - VERSATILE, LOW MAINTAINENCE FABRIC: This hessian fabric for sewing is super durable and useful for both home and garden projects. Although the hessian is not stretchy, the open weave allows for a little give to the material for sewing and for end use. For best results, iron before cutting for pattern work or sewing and take time to pin and fold as you sew. This open weave hessian fabric is machine washable on a cool wash. - DISCOUNT FABRICS BY THE METRE: Established in 2015, Discount Fabrics is your one-stop shop for all things fabric.
